This GOP US Senator Just Denounced Trump’s Comments Against Judge as ‘Absolutely Unacceptable’

Senator Susan Collins and Other Republicans Just Broke the ‘Reagan Rule,’ aka the ‘Eleventh Commandment’

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine just officially denounced Donald Trump‘s comments against a federal judge as “absolutely unacceptable” and against America’s values.

“Donald Trump’s comments on the ethnic heritage and religion of judges are absolutely unacceptable,” Sen. Collins wrote in a statement posted to her official U.S. government website. “His statement that Judge Curiel could not rule fairly because of his Mexican heritage does not represent our American values. Mr. Trump’s comments demonstrate both a lack of respect for the judicial system and the principle of separation of powers.”

GOP Senator Marco Rubio also just denounced Trump’s comments, despite having endorsed him several months ago after his own presidential campaign failed.

“I think it’s wrong,” Rubio said, according to WFTV reporter Christopher Heath, Politico reports. “He needs to stop saying it.”

Since February Donald Trump has been attacking U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Paul Curiel as a “Mexican” and of “Mexican heritage.” Over the past week many times Trump has claimed Judge Curiel, who was actually born in Indiana, was ruling “unfairly” against him because of his Mexican heritage.

Trump on Sunday said not only could Judge Curiel not rule fairly in a case against him, but judges who are Muslim might also be unable to rule objectively.

Collins and Rubio are just the latest Republicans to break Ronald Reagan’s “Eleventh Commandment” – “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” – by denouncing Trump’s comments against the judge.

To varying degrees, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and former GOP presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich have all denounced Trump’s remarks.
