Obama and Sanders Spoke on Sunday

The President Had a Conversation With Sen. Sanders Over the Weekend

President Barack Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders spoke on Sunday, according to NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell. The White House has not commented on the telephone meeting, although The Hill adds that “the president is expected to help broker a truce between Sanders and Hillary Clinton.” The AP adds the conversation was about the campaign and took place Sunday.

Senator Sanders in a Monday press conference insisted he would take his campaign all the way to the convention in July, but for the first time in a long time also said that he and the campaign will “assess where we are after tomorrow before we make statements based on speculation.” Tuesday primaries will be held in New Jersey, California, Montana, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

The New York Times earlier Monday reported President Obama is eager to endorse Secretary Clinton, and could do so “as early as this week.”
