Republican House Speaker Has Endorsed and Will Vote for Donald Trump

U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan late Tuesday morning called Donald Trump‘s attacks on a federal judge “racist” and denounced them, but the Republican Speaker of the House is still insisting he will vote for Trump. Immediately after Ryan made his remarks, Trump surrogate Jeffrey Lord called Ryan “racist.”

“Claiming a person can’t do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment,” Ryan told reporters. “I think that should be absolutely disavowed. It’s absolutely unacceptable. But do I believe that Hillary Clinton is the answer? No, I do not.”

Rep. Ryan made his remarks conveniently surrounded by several African Americans “after announcing a new Republican anti-poverty initiative in Anacostia, an overwhelmingly black neighborhood in Washington,” The New York Times reports.

“I believe that we have more common ground on the policy issues of the day and we have more likelihood of getting our policies enacted with him than with her.”

Ryan, who was commenting on Trump’s racist attacks against a federal judge, born in Indiana to parents of Mexican descent, also said, “I disavow these comments — I regret those comments that he made.”

After watching Ryan’s remarks, Trump surrogate Jeffrey Lord labeled the Republican Speaker of the House “racist.”

“Speaker Ryan is wrong and Speaker Ryan has apparently switched positions and is now supporting identity politics, which is racist,” Lord said on CNN.
