Donald Trump Fires Embattled Manager Corey Lewandowski Amid Tanking Campaign

Claims of Battery and Harassing Behavior Apparently Not the Cause

Donald Trump has fired Corey Lewandowski as his presidential campaign implodes. Lewandowski is best known as the long-time Trump aide who was charged with battery after a reporter accused him of having grabbed her arm, and claims from coworkers alleging inappropriate, sexually suggestive comments.

“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks told The New York Times in the statement. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”

The Times adds that “Lewandowski was often at odds with Mr. Trump’s chief strategist, Paul Manafort, who was brought on in March when the candidate seemed poised for a lengthy fight over delegates,” and “was said to have resisted certain moves that would have increased the staff, at times blocking Mr. Manafort from making hires or later undoing them.”

Michelle Fields, the reporter who quit Breitbart after she accused Lewandowski of grabbing her arm, only to find her employer backing the GOP candidate and not their employee, today posted this tweet:
