Gay GOP Activist Who Called Gay Liberals ‘The American Taliban’ Wants LGBT Republicans to Vote Trump

Chris Barron Once Said, ‘If You Support Trump You Are an Idiot’

Christopher R. Barron, former co-founder and president of the gay Tea Party Republican and now-defunct group, GOProud, has a long history of voicing his opinion on Donald Trump.

On March 21, he wrote for The Guardian that he “helped create Donald Trump the politician,” certainly a braggadocios claim, but lamented that the billionaire businessman “has played the political cheap seats… Instead of offering Republicans a positive vision for the future, he chose to play on some of our most base fears.”

“I expected that Trump would push the envelope, indeed I hoped he would break the rules,” Barron continued. “I did, however, believe that Trump would be guided by some sense of common decency. Instead his campaign has been more Andrew Dice Clay than Ronald Reagan – belittling POWs, women and the disabled.”

CNN now reports, however, that Barron is “coordinating an effort to mobilize a coalition of conservative lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) voters in support of Donald Trump,” noting it’s “a project that has intensified in the wake of a terrorist attack at a gay club in Orlando, Florida.”

The terrorist attack, it should be noted, left 49 dead, 53 injured and has become the country’s deadliest mass shooting, and the worst terror attack since 9/11.

The LGBT community is no longer a stranger to Trump-pandering, though it may surprise some that one of the newest advocates for Trump 2016 is the same man responsible for these tweets:

 

 

“Elections are always about choices,” Barron, who was a Herman Cain donor, told CNN. “The choice this election is that either Hillary Clinton is going to be the next president of the United States or Donald Trump is, and for me, that’s a no-brainer, that’s an easy one. It should be Donald Trump.”

He told CNN that the presumptive Democratic nominee “wants to continue a reckless foreign policy that has made the world less safe for all Americans, including LGBT Americans.” And that upon referring to what he describes as “Muslim states … prescribing the death penalty for people who are gay,” he continued that he would believe this “would be something that a friend of the LGBT community would be able to speak out on, and [she] finds it unable to do so.” 

Barron, who has begun actively attempting to convince the LGBT community into voting for Trump, has “no doubt that Donald Trump would be better for LGBT Americans.” He has, of course, long held many opinions on LGBT Americans:

Barron’s GOProud said it would support any Republican presidential candidate who became the 2012 nominee. It ultimately supported Mitt Romney, but didn’t support same-sex marriage until after the 2012 election.
