Breaking: Dozens of Democratic Congressmen Stage Sit-In on House Floor to Demand Vote on Gun Control
House Democrats Refuse to Get Up Off the Floor Until Speaker Paul Ryan Allows a Vote on Gun Control
At least two dozen Democratic Congressmen are literally sitting on the floor in the well of the U.S. House of Representatives right now, demanding Speaker Paul Ryan allow a vote on gun control legislation.Â
The action is being led by civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), who posted this video to Twitter:
My colleagues & I have had enough. We are sitting-in on the House Floor until we get a vote to address gun violence. https://t.co/rTqrPifuUz
— John Lewis (@repjohnlewis) June 22, 2016
All we’re asking for is a vote, @SpeakerRyan. Only reason not to hold a vote is to protect members afraid to publicly go against gun lobby

As members started sitting down for sit-in, House majority cut them off, gaveled House out of session & into lunch https://t.co/YBQhC2diy4

No more silence. This House needs to act. Anything short of a vote is heartless and cowardly. pic.twitter.com/kjM8ae3a52

Because House Republicans will not gavel in, cameras are not covering the protest.
House Democrats are staging a sit-in on the House floor to protest no gun vote. And cameras C-SPAN uses are not able to show the action.
