Senator Marco Rubio will run for re-election. The one-term Florida Republican who promised America he would not seek re-eelection if his campaign for the presidency was unsuccessful, today will announce he is seeking re-election.
Just as recently as one month ago, Rubio made quite clear that he had absolutely no desire to retain his Senate seat.
Rubio suggested after the Orlando terror attack that he might run for re-election, even seemed to imply he would do so because of the terror attack on the gay nightclub Pulse. He was also one of the very few Republicans who actually said the terror attack was focused on LGBT people.
“My family and I will be praying about all this, and we’ll see what I need to do next with my life in regards to how I can best serve,” Rubio, the morning after the mass shooting said to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, the LA Times reported.
Rubio lost the GOP primary in his home state by a double-digit margin to Donald Trump, Â and won only one county in all of Florida.
Regardless of what the Florida Republican claims are his motivations for seeking re-election, including stopping terrorism, like almost every Republican in the Senate he voted against gun control bills designed to do just that earlier this week.Â
