Bernie Sanders: ‘I Will of Course Be Competing in the DC Primary’

Speaks to Reporters After Meeting With The President

Senator Bernie Sanders just ended his meeting with President Barack Obama and spoke briefly to reporters, thanking the President and Vice President Biden, and announcing, “I will of course be competing in the DC primary,” which is next Tuesday.

He did not take any questions.

The historic meeting, believed to be a discussion about how the Senator from Vermont will wind down his bid for the Democratic nomination, lasted about an hour.

Sanders also made a point of attacking Donald Trump, and said he will do everything he can to prevent the presumptive GOP nominee from becoming president.

In a rare change, Sen. Sanders did not mention the Democratic National Convention in July, where he has vowed to take his presidential campaign. He also said he is looking forward to meeting with Sec. Hillary Clinton “in the near future to see how we can work together” to defeat Donald Trump, whom he called a “disaster.”

He did not congratulate or recognize Clinton as the presumptive nominee.
