WATCH: Ted Cruz Tells Indiana Audience Children Should Be Spanked

Cruz Responds to Young Heckler by Suggesting Corporal Punishment

Ted Cruz suggested spanking after a pre-teen boy at a rally in La Porte, Indiana heckled the Texas Senator Sunday by saying, “You suck!”

Apparently there’s a young boy who’s had some problems,” Cruz said after the child’s first outburst. After the boy’s comments grew louder, Cruz chastised the child, took a swipe at Donald Trump, and told his audience of his affinity for corporal punishment.

“Thank you son. I appreciate you sharing your views,” Cruz said, sarcastically, according to The Daily Caller. “You know, hopefully one of the things somebody has told you is that children should actually speak with respect. Imagine what a different world it would be if someone told Donald Trump that years ago. In my household, when a child behaved that way, they’d get a spanking.”

Gawker reminds that in January, “Cruz suggested ‘spanking’ Hillary Clinton for not calling Benghazi a terrorist attack.”

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child opposes corporal punishment “in all settings.”

It is paradoxical and an affront to humanity that children, the smallest and most vulnerable of people, should have less protection from assault than adults,” the UN says.

The American Psychological Association is opposed to the use of corporal punishment, saying it “is likely to instill hostility, rage, and a sense of powerlessness without reducing the undesirable behavior.”
