Watch: President Obama Honors Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day by Speaking About Liberty and Equality

The President Delivered Remarks at Arlington National Cemetery

President Barack Obama Monday morning delivered remarks to honor the nation’s fallen soldiers on this, his last Memorial Day as Commander in Chief.

Recognizing that America has lost 20 soldiers in combat over the past year, the President said, “A nation reveals itself not only by the people it produces, but by those it remembers.”

“We do so not just by hoisting a flag but by lifting up our neighbors. Not just by pausing in silence but by practicing in our own lives the ideals of opportunity and liberty and equality that they fought for.”

He urged Americans to “serve others, and contribute to the causes they believed in.”

And he urged Americans to listen to the stories the families of the fallen have to tell.
