Watch: Pat McCrory Says He’s ‘Extremely Sensitive’ to Gender Identity

Demands ‘Clarity’ for Definitions of Gender Identity and Expression – Just Not From Obama Administration

Governor Pat McCrory Monday filed a lawsuit against the federal government, then took to the news media to portray himself s a reasonable person who’s trying to work with all parties. On PBS, the North Carolina governor received little pushback, telling Judy Woodruff that he’s merely seeking “clarity” on terms like gender identity and gender expression, and thinks the federal government should provide it – just not the Obama administration. In fact, he called Attorney General Loretta Lynch‘s historic and well-received speech “extremely divisive” and “dangerous rhetoric.”

Asked if he would “acknowledge” that HB2 is “causing transgender people to suffer emotional harm, mental anguish, distress, humiliation, indignity,” McCrory responded callously. “I acknowledge we need to work this out,” he said, but “this needs clarity by the courts and the U.S. Congress.”

Gov. McCrory claimed he is “extremely sensitive to people’s gender identity, which is a brand new term in the last couple years,” which of course is false. It’s a term that’ been around for decades.

McCrory in fact insists Congress or the courts should provide definitions for the terms gender identity and gender expression – exactly the two branches of government whose job it should not be do so – and besides, there are plenty of readily-available sources, including the Department of Justice, whose job it is to do so.

But McCrory insists otherwise.

“It’s a very complex and emotional issue and I think the courts are the right way to do it,” he said, ignoring that if it’s such a “complex” issue, why did he sign a law that had been debated for about 30 minutes?

The governor also claimed that some of the transgender people he’s spoken with are angry the left created nondiscrimination laws to protect them. He didn’t provide any names.

At the end of the interview, McCrory stunningly tries to suggest only “one business” has pulled jobs from the state, which is egregiously false.
