Watch: ‘Bernie’ and ‘Hillary’ Drink and Dance in Epic, Hysterical SNL Cold Open
The Two ‘Candidates’ Reminisce About the Historic Democratic Race With Some of Their Best Lines Ever
“Hillary Clinton” and “Bernie Sanders” run into each other in a bar, have a drink together, reminisce about the presidential race, and end up dancing in Saturday Night Live’s epic, fog-filled cold open.
Toasting her success with the bartender (Kenan Thompson), “Clinton” (Kate McKinnon) announces, “I’ve done it! I’ve won the nomination! I mean, no I haven’t—I keep losing states—but mathematically, I’ve done it! To math!”
The bartender announces it’s closing time and everyone should go.
“No freakin’ way! I’m not going anywhere,” “Sanders,” (Larry David) insists. “I can stay here as long as I want.”
“No, no, it’s not over. It’s not over ’til I say it’s over.”
Clinton says, “Oh, hello Bernie. I didn’t see you siting behind me, so far behind you can never catch up.”
She invites Sanders to have a drink, then mocks his suit, saying it “looks old.” He returns the favor, saying hers makes her look like she was “just elected to the Galactic Council.”
Ordering drinks, Sanders says, “I’ll have a beer, a new brand that people are flocking to. Something refreshing and revolutionary. Something that draws huuuuge crowds.”
“And I’ll have whatever beer no one likes but gets the job done,” Clinton says.
The Democratic frontrunner tells Sanders that if she wins he’ll get a “special role” in the Clinton administration: “The Senator from Vermont.”
Later, acknowledging it might be “the beer talking,” Sanders says, “Remember when I told everyone to stop talking about your damn emails? What a schmuck!”
“That could’ve taken me down!” Clinton quips.
Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher astutely points to a famous 1930’s Hollywood director and choreographer, and notes, “the bit really soared when it morphed into a Busby Berkeley-esque dance through the SNL Studio.” That “bit” includes the entire cast surrounded by fog, in gowns, tuxedos, and glitter.
Epic.
