Trump Thought 250,000 People Would Come to DC to Hear Him Speak, Just Like Martin Luther King Jr

Donald Trump on Saturday delivered a speech near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. to what is being described as a “modest crowd of veterans and motorcycle enthusiasts.” But the angered and disappointed GOP presumptive nominee told the crowd that he thought 250,000 people would attend, as they did when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech on August 28, 1963. The AP reports attendance was estimated to be about 5000 people.

“I’ll tell you what really amazes me. I thought this would be like Doctor Martin Luther King, where the people would be lined up from here all the way to the Washington Monument,” Trump said Sunday to attendees of the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally. Bloomberg reports, that “Trump suggested that many had been prevented from attending on Sunday, without offering any evidence.”

The Hill adds Trump “claimed that more than half a million people attempted to attend his speech, ‘but unfortunately they aren’t allowed to come in.'”

“We have the biggest rallies by far, far bigger than Bernie Sanders,” Trump told the crowd on the National Mall. “Far bigger. I mean, look at today. They say you have 600,000 people here trying to get in.”

“That’s not gonna happen,” Trump continued. “But they say you have 600,000 people.”

CBS News reports a “crowd count wasn’t immediately available, but the space in front of the Lincoln Memorial was far from filled up.”
