Trans-Inclusive School Policy Prompts Call for Stonings

Former GOP Legislative Candidate Calls Trans People ‘Delusional,’ Compares Them to Anorexics, Says It’s ‘Too Bad’ We Don’t Do More Stoning

Last month, the Fort Worth school district unveiled a progressive new set of guidelines for dealing with transgender students.

The district has prohibited harassment and bullying based on gender identity and expression since 2011. But the eight-page policy laid out by Superintendent Kent P. Scribner on April 26 goes much further.

For example, it requires staff to use students’ preferred names and pronouns. It also prohibits staff from disclosing students’ gender identity, including to parents, except on a need-to-know basis. And it generally allows trans students access to restrooms and locker rooms based to their gender identity.

Not surprisingly, right-wingers in one of the nation’s largest Republican cities are crying foul. They are led by tea partier Bo French, a former GOP candidate for state representative who was defeated by the incumbent, an establishment Republican, in the March primary.

French has launched a petition demanding that the district repeal the policy, which he calls “an astonishing and shocking rebuttal to common sense, history, and science.”

French has also been outspoken about the policy on his Facebook page, saying it will lead to 18-year-old males preying on 14-year-old females and repeatedly referring to trans kids as “delusional”:

Nevertheless, French insists he’s “not judging”:

But in this thread, he appears to agree with a commenter who suggests the solution would be to bring back stoning:

In any case, the controversy is likely to come to a head Tuesday, when supporters and opponents of the policy are planning show up at the school board’s regular meeting.

David Mack Henderson, president of the LGBT group Fairness Fort Worth, said right-wing radio host Glenn Beck, who lives near Fort Worth, even plans to speak.

Henderson has posted an emergency alert urging LGBT people and their allies to attend the meeting wearing read. Here’s what he had to say about French:
