GOP Governor Who Signed Sweeping and Unconstitutional HB2 Into Law Complains of ‘Overreach’
Governor Pat McCrory took his time but has finally issued a response to the Obama administration’s new directive protecting transgender students from discrimination. In a statement on his website, the North Carolina governor blasts the president for what he considers executive overreach.
Claiming “the executive branch of the federal government does not have the authority to be the final arbiter” of nondiscrimination policies, McCrory insists “both the federal courts and the U.S. Congress must intercede to stop this massive executive branch overreach, which clearly oversteps constitutional authority.”
McCrory of course is the chief executive who signed an illegal and unconstitutional bill, HB2, into law, causing a nationwide backlash that will cost the Tar Heel State $5 billion annually.
He goes on to blame the Obama administration for instituting “federally mandated edicts that affect employees as well as every parent and child within a public school system.”
“This national bathroom, locker room and shower policy for almost every business, university and now K-12 school in our country changes generations of gender etiquette and privacy norms which parents, children and employees have expected in the most personal and private settings of their everyday lives.”
“Most Americans,” McCrory, claims, “including this governor, believe that government is searching for a solution to a problem that has yet to be defined.”
Clearly the Republican governor hasn’t actually read the polls. Most Americans – 57 percent, to be exact – oppose laws like his HB2. Less than one person in four, just 38 percent, support laws like HB2. Even his own fellow Republicans are evenly slit, 48 percent to 48 percent.
