North Carolina School Board Member Calls Pepper Spray ‘Pretty Valuable Tool’ Against Trans Students

School Board Votes to Allow Students to Carry Pepper Spray and Mace, With One Member Referencing HB2

North Carolina‘s Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to allow students to carry pepper spray, with one member advocating its use against transgender students in a comment about the anti-LGBT law HB2.

School Board member Chuck Hughes (photo) “referenced HB2, saying that the sprays might be useful,” the Salisbury Post reports.

“Depending on how the courts rule on the bathroom issues, it may be a pretty valuable tool to have on the female students if they go to the bathroom, not knowing who may come in,” Hughes said.
