Dad Says Sons ‘Are Being Humiliated and Intimidated’

A Michigan father has pulled his three sons out of the public school system after one told him a girl was using the boys’ restroom. Presumably the girl was actually a transgender boy, but for privacy reasons school administrators are not allowed to say.

“My son informed me there was a girl in the bathroom with him and the other kids in his class,” Matt Stewart tells WXYZ. His 9-year old son told him a school administrator told her “to look at the wall” and told boys to stand closer to the urinals, the Detroit Free Press reports. 

“I have three children in Southwest Elementary School and they are being humiliated and intimidated,” Stewart tells the newspaper. “Our kids are absent from school until there’s a policy in place that keeps them from being humiliated or intimidated.”

“Our son was initially confused and he talked about this in a manner where he almost felt as if he was doing something wrong,” Stewart says.

“The bottom line: A 9-year-old girl is in the boys’ bathroom with my son,” the father concludes, clearly not caring to understand what transgender is.

Dr. Carnigee Truesdale-Howard, Pediatric Psychologist Dr. Carnigee Truesdale-Howard tells WXYZ parents should ask themselves, “How would you want the school to treat your child if your child was transgender?”

She recommends parents hold off on “their fears and anxieties, and maybe educate themselves about what transgender is -and go from there.” 

School administrators sent parents a letter explaining the Obama administration’s “significant guidance on the rights of transgender students.”

“Measures will, therefore, be implemented consistent with this guidance in a way which ensures the safety, privacy, and dignity of all involved,” the school told parents.
