Kim Davis: Gays ‘Wanted to Shove’ the SCOTUS Ruling ‘Down My Throat and Make Me Eat It for Dinner’

‘I Was Obeying My Law,’ Anti-Gay Religious Extremist Says

Kim Davis has kept a low profile over the past few months, but the anti-gay extremist Kentucky clerk who spent six days in jail for contempt of court recently sat down with Frank Wright of D. James Kennedy Ministries to talk about why she refused to let any same-sex couples in her county wed.

“I was obeying my law,” Davis, a Oneness Pentecostal Evangelical Christian said, as Right Wing Watch reports.

“I had couples bring in the whole Supreme Court ruling and I said, ‘You know, I really don’t need to see this because that’s not a law, that’s a ruling,'” she said, adding that same-sex couples would ask, “‘Well, why won’t you do this?,’ and so then I go to the Bible and I’d tell them.”

“‘Don’t be reading me the Bible,'” Davis said the couples would tell her. “‘Well, you asked why I couldn’t issue you a marriage license and I’m explaining to you, I’m showing you why I cannot.’ They didn’t want to hear that though,” Davis said, not understanding the very basics of separation of church and state.

“They wanted to shove that paper down my throat and make me eat it for my dinner,” she said of the Supreme Court’s Obergefell ruling, which found that same-sex couples, do, in fact, have a constitutional right to marry, regardless of her religious views.

Friendly Atheist’s Hemant Mehta weighed in, writing, “Someone should explain Civics 101 to Davis. The Court’s ruling struck down a bad law. That’s what the Court can do. That’s why it’s so important.”

“On a brighter note,” Mehta continues, “I guess this means the Hobby Lobby ruling is worthless and women can finally have access to birth control through their religious employers. And we don’t have to worry about the Court striking down abortion rights, since whatever they say is worthless.”
