A North Carolina Democrat Just Tried to Introduce a Bill to Repeal HB2. Here’s What Happened.

State Rep. Darren Jackson Thursday Morning Also Tried to Get Funds to Improve State’s Image

The U.S. Dept. of Justice has made clear North Carolina’s HB2 is illegal. (This explains why.) Legal experts have also determined HB2 is unconstitutional. A study out of the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute found it will cost North Carolina $5 billion annually.

Thursday morning, Democratic state Rep. Darren Jackson attempted to file an amendment to repeal HB2, and to allocate $2 million to improve the state’s image.

He was shot down.

Not just shot down, but his attempt was ruled “out of order.”

Several Democratic lawmakers made sure to let the public know what happened:

News & Observer reporter Collin Campbell added on Twitter that Rep. Jackson wasn’t even allow to introduce the amendment today:

It’s not all that surprising, since North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore is one of the top GOP leaders behind HB2, and is among those suing the federal government over it.

Ultimately, the bill passed, with no HB2 repeal amendment added:
