WATCH: These 8 North Carolina Trans Citizens Share Their Feelings On HB2 And It May Break Your Heart
Residents of North Carolina Who Are Transgender Talk About How the New Law Is Personally Affecting Them
Several years ago the LGBT community learned that if we come out and live our lives openly and honestly – instead of hiding in the closet or the shadows as the anti-LGBT and religious right would prefer – we will win hearts and minds, and equality.
While it’s not a silver bullet to cure hate and discrimination, it’s a simple truth that’s been helping.Â
Raleigh, North Carolina-based newspaper, The News & Observer, just published a moving video featuring eight transgender citizens talking about their lives in the wake of Gov. Pat McCrory‘s new anti-LGBT law, HB2.
It begins with each sharing how they feel about the new law.
EJ Greaves: “Disappointed.”
Mykal Slack: “Sadness.”
Candis Cox: “Shame.”
CJ Lewis: “Upset.”
Alaina Kupec: “Embarrassment.”
Sam Peterson:Â “Sadness.”
Wendy Ella May: “And then I became angry.”
Austin Fonville: “Invisible. Again.”
It’s incredibly moving, and chances are good you’ll shed a tear by the time it’s over.
Watch above.
