GOP Presidential Candidate Says Trans People Are Imposing Their Lifestyle on Others – by Using Public Facilities
Senator Ted Cruz has actually decided to make the issue of where transgender people pee part of his stump speech and national platform. The GOP presidential candidate has been mocking transgender people and using the issue created by North Carolina's anti-LGBT law HB2 as a wedge between himself and Donald Trump. Surprisingly, Trump opposes HB2, which bans transgender people from using public restrooms that conform with their gender identity. Cruz, the number two Republican presidential candidate, enthusiastically supports it.
After making nasty "jokes" about Donald Trump dressing up as Hillary Clinton, which as of Friday became part of his stump speech, Sen. Cruz announced on Saturday that transgender women shouldn't use public restrooms, they should only use their bathrooms at home.
“Every one of us has the right to live our lives as we wish,†the Texas Tea Party Senator told a crowd in Plainsville, Indiana. “If any one of us wants to dress up as a woman or man and wants to live as woman or man and believes that we might be something other than what we were born, God has made each of us with free will and the ability to choose to do that if man to wants to dress as a woman, and live as a woman, and have a bathroom at home.â€
Someone in the audience, likely a reporter, asked Cruz to clarify, to confirm that he was saying transgender women shouldn’t be allowed to use public restrooms at all.
“You don’t have a right to intrude upon the rights of others because whether or not a man believes he’s a woman, there are a lot of women who would like to be able to use a public restroom in peace without having a man there,†Cruz responded. “And when there are children involved, you don’t have a right to impose your lifestyle on others.â€
Last week staffers at a Cruz rally kicked a 16-year old boy out of the event, because he is transgender.
