McCrory Blames ‘National Smear Campaign’ but He’s the One Spreading Lies

Even before North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed HB2 into law, he had begun an ugly campaign of lies about Charlotte’s nondiscrimination law. McCrory made sure lawmakers not only overturned the legally-enacted ordinance but made sure no other city or town could ever try to protect LGBT people again. And when lawmakers passed the bill voiding all nondiscrimination ordinances across the state, he signed it the very same day.

But Gov. McCrory didn’t stop there. He has been waging war against anyone daring to contradict his interpretation of HB2, the law that voids LGBT nondiscrimination ordinances throughout the state, attacks transgender citizens by revoking their right to use public restrooms based on gender identity, mandates that only state lawmakers can pass laws regulating employment discrimination, the use of public accommodations, and minimum wages.

But people across the nation are fighting back. There have been protests, a lawsuit, countless articles in the media debunking McCrory’s lies, and the Obama administration is looking into cutting billions in federal funds from North Carolina.

And now the Human Rights Campaign has produced a very powerful and pointed video destroying McCrory’s arguments.

This is important. McCrory is betting that the more he repeats the same lies, the more doubt he’ll sow into people’s minds, thus giving his falsehoods a shred of credibility. We cannot allow that to happen.

This video needs to be shared far and wide.
