Republican State Senator Closely Tied to Anti-LGBT Law Reveals Its True Purpose

North Carolina State Senator Buck Newton on Monday addressed a crowd of HB2 supporters, urging them to continue fighting to keep the anti-LGBT law alive. He ended his speech by revealing the true purpose of HB2: “Keep our state straight!,” Newton demanded.

At today's pro-HB2 rally Senator Buck Newton remarked that "we must fight to keep our state straight." #WeAreNotThis

“Go home, tell your friends and family who had to work today what this is all about and how hard we must fight to keep our state straight,” Newton, a Republican running to be North Carolina’s next Attorney General, told fans.

“We all know that the folks that wave the rainbow flags and things like that are politically very upset about the way things are today,” he told the crowd earlier in his speech. “They’re upsets about the way things have always been in this state. And they’re bound and determined to try to change it, whether it’s by winning elections in the city of Charlotte on their city council or whether it’s wining elections in November in the General Assembly or whether it’s winning elections in November for our governor.”

Here’s more of Newton’s speech:

It’s stunning that the man who wants to be the top law enforcement agent effectively admits he wants LGBT people to not exist in the state.

He also compares transgender people to people “struggling with drugs.”

“Now it’s been said that there are many, many, many, many more sexual predators on the sex offender list than there are transgender people,” he said. “And we can all feel sympathy for folks who are having difficult times, because we all know folks that have a difficult time, whether folks are struggling with drugs, are struggling with their marriages, figuring out what it is that they’re supposed to be doing in life. We can all have sympathy for that. But that does not mean that we should expose our wives and our sisters and our children to the sexual predators in the bathrooms.”

Newton last year voted for a bill that lets magistrates opt out of marrying same-sex couples. During debate he told his colleagues he was “disgusted” by comparisons between race and sexual orientation. “You’re born into your race. I don’t know about sexual orientation,” he said, adding, “People should not have to choose between their faith and their jobs.”

WATCH: Trump Says He Hasn’t Read Whistleblower Complaint – in Next Breath Claims ‘Everybody’s Read It, They Laugh at It’

Published

President Donald Trump has spent a good part of the day trying to minimize the news about a reportedly damning whistleblower complaint filed against him by an intelligence official. During an Oval Office press availability Trump threw many different claims at reporters, claiming both that he had no idea what was in the complaint or which country’s leader it involved, then claimed his conversation with the country’s leader was “great” and “beautiful.”

Minutes later he was asked again about the whistleblower report, and if he had read it.

“No I haven’t,” Trump replied.

“It’s – I, I just tell you it is – everybody’s read it, they laugh at it,” Trump said, making a face as if to denigrate the report.

It’s unclear who “everybody” is, but if it to have been even widely distributed Congress would need to investigate, given only the Director of National Intelligence and the IG should have access to it.

He went on to call it “another media disaster,” despite the intelligence community inspector general – who he appointed – calling the whistleblower complaint both “credible” and “urgent.”

Two LGBTQ Democratic Presidential Candidate Events – Bernie Sanders and Andrew Yang Won’t Participate in Either

Published

on

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Andrew Yang are the only two top Democratic presidential candidates who are declining to participate in both LGBTQ candidate forums. The first, hosted by GLAAD, The Advocate, The Gazetteand One Iowa, will be held Friday evening in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The second, hosted by HRC and CNN will take place in October in Los Angeles.

The ten Democratic presidential candidates who agreed to participate in Friday’s LGBTQ Presidential Forum are Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Julián Castro, Amy Klobuchar, Tulsi Gabbard, Joe Sestak, and Marianne Williamson, according to The Advocate. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke appears to be the only other top Democratic candidate who will not be participating in Friday’s event, but he is slated to participate in the second event.

The LGBTQ Presidential Forum can be watched live via YouTube (video embedded below) starting at 7PM Central, 8 PM Eastern.

The evening will be hosted by “Pose” star Angelica Ross, who wasn’t shy about comments she was receiving about Senator Sanders’ decision to decline to participate.

She later tweeted this explanation:

The Advocate reported Senator Sanders is “the only frontrunner who will miss both events aimed at discussing LGBTQ equality and rights,” noting his “team has cited ‘scheduling conflicts’ for both events.”

Friday’s LGBTQ Presidential Forum is open to all Democratic presidential candidates. Next month’s HRC/CNN LGBTQ Town Hall is limited to only those who meet the DNC’s debate requirements. Nine candidates have agreed to participate in October. They are: Tom Steyer, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), former HUD Secretary Julián Castro.

Trump Flails Over Whistle Blower Charges: ‘It Was a Beautiful Conversation’ but ‘I Don’t Know Who You’re Talking About’

Published

Trump says he doesn’t know which world leader the allegations involve, but he knows his conversation with them was “totally appropriate,” “great,” and “beautiful.”

President Donald Trump appeared to be attempting to cover up both his actions that are now the target of a whistleblower complaint filed by an intelligence official, and his knowledge of what the allegations are. He failed miserably.

Speaking to reporters late Friday morning in the Oval Office the President was asked about the allegation, which include a “promise” he allegedly made, likely to the president of Ukraine. They charges, many believe, are that he used $250 million of U.S. military aid as leverage for Ukraine officials to dig up dirt on his top political opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Here’s how President Trump responded to reporters’ questions:

“Ridiculous story.”

“It’s a partisan whistleblower.”

“I’ve had conversations with many leaders – they’re always appropriate.”

“Anything I do I fight for this country.”

“It’s just another political hack job.”

“It was actually a beautiful conversation.”

“It doesn’t matter what I discussed but I will say this: somebody ought to look into Joe Biden’s statement.”

Trump also charged the media would not investigate Joe Biden “because he’s a Democrat.”

“I had a great conversation with numerous people – I don’t even know exactly who you’re talking about.”

So, the president doesn’t know which world leader the allegations are about, and yet he knows he had a “totally appropriate,” “great,” and “beautiful” conversation with them.
