Over 160 CEOs and Business Leaders to North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory: Repeal Anti-LGBT Law HB2

List of Household Name Brands Continues to Grow as North Carolina Faces Potential Economic Crisis

There are now more than 160 Chairmen, CEOs, presidents, and other business leaders who have signed an open letter to Gov. Pat McCrory asking him to repeal North Carolina‘s anti-LGBT law HB2, which has drawn the ire and outrage of the nation.

“Discrimination is wrong, and we believe it has no place in North Carolina or anywhere in our country,” the letter, organized by the Human Rights Campaign and Equality North Carolina, reads. “As companies that pride ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming to all, we strongly urge you and the leadership of North Carolina’s legislature to repeal this law in the upcoming legislative session.”

Executives from household names, including Williams-Sonoma, Salesforce, Levi Strauss & Co., Goldman Sachs, Airbnb, Barnes and Noble, Kellogg, Mass Mutual, GE, Bloomberg, Hyatt, Uber, Yahoo, Facebook, Starbucks, eBay, Microsoft, and Campbells, among many others, have signed on.

In addition to these 160 executives, HB2 has been denounced by entertainers, including Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, and on Friday, Cirque du Soleil, all of whom are now boycotting the state. Film and TV companies are refusing to produce in North Carolina, taking hundreds of jobs elsewhere. Even the White House has denounced the law, and several cabinet-level departments are looking at options including withholding billions in federal funds.

This week an $875 million financial services corporation announced it is leaving North Carolina because of HB2, and a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators asked the NBA to pull next year’s All-Star game from the Tar Heel Sate.

One Democratic state lawmaker on Friday, who supports repealing HB2, admitted that North Carolina is “hemorrhaging” jobs.
