Obama Takes Down Trump: ‘Doesn’t Know Much About Foreign Policy or Nuclear Policy’ (Video)

At Nuclear Summit President Slams Trump for Wanting More Countries to Have Nuclear Weapons

President Barack Obama Friday evening denounced Donald Trump for comments the GOP frontrunner made earlier this week, calling for more countries, not less, to have nuclear weapons. Trump had said Japan, South Korea, and other countries should have nuclear weapons, and he suggested 70 years worth of arms negotiations and agreements should be tossed out.

Speaking to reporters minutes ago at the close of the fourth Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C., President Obama was asked about Donald Trump’s comments.

“The person who made the statements doesn’t know much about foreign policy or nuclear policy or the Korean Peninsula or the world generally,” Obama said, quite seriously, but almost with a momentarily incredulous smirk.

America’s nuclear umbrella for Japan and South Korea is “one of the cornerstones of our presence in the Asia Pacific,” the President told reporters at the end of the 50-nation summit.

“It has prevented the possibilities of a nuclear escalation and conflict,” the President continued. “You don’t mess with that. It’s an investment that rests on the sacrifices that our men and women made” in World War II.

“We don’t want someone in the Oval Office who doesn’t recognize how important that is.”
