Lynne Cheney Endorses Ted Cruz as Man Who Is ‘Attuned to Our Values’ (Video)

Family Values? Former Second Lady of the United States Whose Daughter Is a Lesbian Throws Support to Most Anti-Gay Candidate Running

Today Lynne Cheney (photo) introduced and endorsed Senator Ted Cruz just before the Wyoming caucuses began. It’s well-known that the former Second Lady of the United States has two daughters, one of whom, Mary Cheney, is a lesbian, and married, raising two children with her wife, Heather Poe.

It’s also well known that Ted Cruz is by far the most anti-gay candidate running for president. The Texas Tea Party Senator has claimed LGBT people are waging “jihad” against Christians. Just months ago Cruz spoke at Pastor Kevin Swanson’s Freedom 2015 National Religious Liberties Conference, even after CNN’s Jake Tapper point-blank told him Swanson has called for gay people to be put to death.

So it’s rather stunning that Lynne Cheney, wife of the former Vice President Dick Cheney, would say that Ted Cruz is “attuned to our values” upon introducing him to Wyoming voters.

Cruz has said one of his main priorities as president would be “to uphold the sacrament of marriage,” thus nullifying Mrs. Cheney’s daughter’s marriage. He fully supports anti-LGBT “religious freedom” laws that allow anyone to deny service to LGBT people based on their “sincerely held religious beliefs.”

He thinks that same-sex marriage leads to hate speech. He’s introduced at least two bills that would allow bans on same-sex marriage to once again be legal, and that would ban judges from ruling on those bans. And he called the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage “tragic and indefensible,” and its ruling striking down DOMA “a regrettable overreach against the will of the people.”

But Senator Cruz also doesn’t believe the daughter of Lynne and former Vice President Dick Cheney, or any LGBT person, deserves protection under federal law.

“The decision whether or not to make sexual orientation a protected legal class is a choice best left to the states, and elected legislatures in all 50 states have reached different conclusions on that question. A one-size-fits-all federal statutory right, which would invite abusive lawsuits and which contains insufficient protections for religious liberties, is the wrong approach.” Cruz said.

So much for Lynne Cheney’s family values – and for that matter, Ted Cruz’s.
