Gov. McCrory Blames Liberals for ‘Orwellian’ Orchestration of HB2 So a Democrat Could Take His Job

EDITORIAL: Is Pat McCrory Serious?

Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory says that even though he personally called for lawmakers to take action against Charlotte’s nondiscrimination ordinance, even though Republicans initiated a special one day legislative session to do so, even though Republicans drafted and pushed HB2 through both chambers, even though every Senate Democrat walked out making the bill’s passage by Republicans unanimous, even though he personally signed HB2 less than 12 hours after it was first introduced last month in the General Assembly, and even though he staunchly has defended HB2 every day since, liberals are to blame for it.

“This hornet’s nest, he argued, was first kicked not by him, but by the Democratic City Council in Charlotte, which passed a nondiscrimination ordinance in February allowing transgender people to use men’s or women’s bathrooms,” The New York Times reports. “Before it passed, he said, he emailed the Council to warn it that if it changed ‘basic restroom and locker room norms,’ he would be forced to support a state law overriding them.”

“On Thursday,” the Times report continues, “he said he suspected that the entire matter had been orchestrated by Democrats and the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay rights group, to give Democrats an advantage in a tight governor’s race.”

“The backlash, he said, has allowed for no dialogue on ‘a very complex issue.’ Dissenters to the left-wing position, he said, were being intimidated. Mr. McCrory used the word ‘Orwellian’ twice.”

“You’ve got to be politically naïve if you think this is not coordinated by a very effective — a very effective — group,” he said.

So – despite thousands of jobs being lost in North Carolina specifically and as a direct result of HB2, despite billions of dollars in lost revenue in North Carolina specifically and as a direct result of HB2, despite voters and citizens and activists daily explaining how HB2 affects them personally, despite reports of calls to a crisis hotline for transgender people doubling, despite the state attorney general and multiple legal experts declaring HB2 unconstitutional, despite what literally has become a statewide financial and emotional crisis – everything surrounding HB2 is about Governor Pat McCrory and him winning re-election.

That doesn’t sound like a leader.

That sounds like a self-absorbed narcissistic madman.
