Fox News’ Van Susteren: ‘Stupid’ Obama ‘Dividing the Country’ by Putting Harriet Tubman on $20 Bill

Greta Van Susteren Wonders ‘Why Some People Don’t Just Use Their Heads’

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren slammed President Barack Obama Wednesday, saying his administration “went stupid for no reason,” when Treasury Secretary Jack Lew decided to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.

Lew, Van Susteren said, is “creating a hundred-percent completely unnecessary fight” by replacing President Andrew Jackson with “a woman, Harriet Tubman.”

Van Susteren defended her position by claiming to be “a feminist,” who loves “to see women acknowledged for the great things they do to contribute to our nation, and Harriet Tubman did, and she deserves it.”

“But what I don’t get is this: Rather than dividing the country between those who happen to like the tradition of our currency and want President Andrew Jackson to stay put and those who want to put a woman on a bill — it’s so easy to make everyone happy,” she insisted, ignoring the fact that the Treasury Department many times in our nation’s history changes paper and coin currency.

Her solution?

“We could use a $25 bill. Put her picture on that, and we could all celebrate,” she said.

“That’s the smart and easy thing to do. But no, some people don’t think and would gratuitously stir up conflict in the nation. That is so awful, and yes, dumb.”

Sure, let’s create an entirely new bill. It’s so easy, and wouldn’t impact, say, cash register machine makers, banks that would have to buy new ATMs or reconfigure them, the list goes on and on. Not to mention, allowing for an uneducated populace to fall for counterfeit bills.

Republicans like Van Susteren constantly decry both change and bureaucracy. They come up with ideas and give voice to them at the drop of a hat (Trump), never thinking them through or even seeing if there are any unintended consequences (like this piece of legislation), but then ask, “Don’t you wonder why some people don’t just use their heads?”

Yes, Greta, we do. We do indeed.
