Bruce Springsteen Warns Michigan Lawmakers He’s Not Coming Back if They Pass Proposed Anti-LGBT Bill

Playing in Detroit, Rock Icon Threatens to Do What He Did in North Carolina

Michigan may have seen the last of Bruce Springsteen. The 66-year old rocker during a concert in Detroit Thursday night sent a warning to lawmakers in the Great Lakes State: pass that anti-LGBT bill you’re debating and I won’t come back.

On stage at Detroit’s Palace of Auburn Hills, before launching into “Born in the USA,” “The Boss” told fans he’s heard about the legislation.

“We hope the bill doesn’t pass, ‘cause we love playing in Michigan,” Springsteen told the audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “So keep your heads up.”

Last week, Springsteen canceled a concert scheduled for Greensboro, North Carolina, issuing a statement denouncing that state’s new law that bans transgender people from using public restrooms that comply with their gender identity. HB2 also voided all local LGBT non-discrimination ordinances, and ripped control from local governments over minimum wages and employment discrimination.

The Huffington Post notes Springsteen apparently “was referencing a bill soon to be introduced by Republican Senator Tom Casperson that would force transgender students in the state to use restrooms based on the gender they were assigned at birth, rather than their authentic gender identity.”
