Breaking: Ted Cruz to Name Carly Fiorina as Vice Presidential Running Mate

First Vice Presidential Pick of 2016 Season

Ted Cruz Wednesday at 4:00 PM EDT will announce Carly Fiorina will be his choice to be his vice presidential running mate, should he win the nomination, according to the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, and others. Thirteen months ago the Texas Tea Party Senator was the first to formally announce his candidacy for president, and he becomes the first to announce his vice presidential candidate.

Fiorina battled for the GOP nomination, but dropped out after failing to garner sufficient interest from voters.

Cruz has been plagued by Donald Trump’s massive lead. Announcing a vice presidential choice early might help him with conservative women voters, and he might see it as a benefit to combat Hillary Clinton, who many say is close to becoming the Democratic nominee.

Cruz, however, has a long and doubtful path to the GOP nomination.

Fiorina, a former CEO for Hewlett-Packard, saw her poll numbers drop dramatically after she lied during a Republican presidential debate about the fraudulent Planned Parenthood videos. Even conservative news outlets, including Fox News, insisted she was wrong, but Fiorina has never recanted.

Similarly, Cruz has been charged with running one of the most dishonest campaigns of the 2016 cycle.
