Former Beatle Calls for ‘Peace and Love’
Ringo Starr won’t be performing in the Tar Heel State. The former Beatle has just canceled a concert scheduled for June in Cary, North Carolina, citing HB2, an anti-LGBT law signed by Gov. Pat McCrory that has drawn national outrage.
“I’m sorry to disappoint my fans in this area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred. Spread peace and love,” the 75-year old singer-songwriter, drummer, and actor said in a statement first reported by ABC News on Twitter:
“How sad that they feel that this group of people cannot be defended,” the former member of the Beatles added. His statement added that he “asks that we all support organizations that are fighting to overturn this law in any way we can.”
It concludes, “All you need is love.”
Recently, Bruce Springsteen canceled his North Carolina concert in response to HB2, a law that strips all LGBT protections from local ordinances and bans transgender people from using the public restroom that corresponds to their gender identity. Bryan Adams also just canceled a concert, slated for Mississippi, in protest of an anti-LGBT “religious freedom” law there.
