Alexandra Billings on HB2: ‘It’s Rounding Up Transgender People So We Can Be Hunted and Murdered’

‘Transparent’ Stars Discuss North Carolina’s Anti-LGBT Law HB2

“Transparent” actress Alexandra Billings says North Carolina’s HB2 is “rounding us up as transgender people in a very specific place so we can be hunted and systematically murdered.” Her powerful and insightful comments don’t stop there. In an exclusive interview with ET Canada, Billings and her “Transparent” co-star Jeffrey Tambor discuss HB2.

“First of all, let’s stop calling it the ‘bathroom bill,’ let’s call it HB2, because ‘the bathroom bill’ makes it sound so cute and friendly and it’s not,” Billings insists.

“The problem is that the religious conservatives, all Republicans, have categorically decided that what I am can be taken off, meaning I’m in a costume, or I’m a fetish or a fad,” she says. “Transgenderism, although not a disorder, is inbred, it is genetic, it is historical. We’ve been around for centuries.”

Billings says “the reason for the law is nonexistent. There has never, not one, ever, in the history of crime ever been a transgender person who’s committed a crime against anyone in any bathroom.”

HB2 “is complete prejudice” that’s “founded on intuition, and not facts,” she says.

Tambor adds that he posted a tweet to show support as an ally after HB2 became law. “Has hell frozen over? Because that’s when I’ll be in North Carolina to work again.”
