Mayor of Washington, DC Bans All Official Travel To North Carolina Over Anti-LGBT Law
DC Latest to Ban Travel to Tar Heel State
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has just signed an executive order banning official travel by officers and employees of the District of Columbia to North Carolina.Â
Citing Gov. Pat McCrory’s anti-LGBT law which he signed last week, the Democratic Mayor’s order states that “ensuring individuals are free from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is a compelling government interest.”
The order is effective immediately.Â

Although Washington, D.C.’s ban goes further than others, it is the latest in a slew of cities and states that have banned non-essential taxpayer-funded travel to North Carolina. The states of New York, Connecticut, Washington, and Vermont, along with the cities of Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland have all enacted similar bans.
