GOP Frontrunner Responds to Brussels Terror Attacks
Donald Trump spent much of Tuesday calling for America’s laws to be changed to allow waterboarding, which is currently illegal under U.S. and international law because it’s a form of torture.
“Frankly, the waterboarding, if it was up to me, and if we changed the laws or had the laws, waterboarding would be fine,” Trump said on NBC’s “Today” show. “If they could expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding. You have to get the information from these people.”
“You know, we work within laws. They don’t work within laws — they have no laws. We work within laws. The waterboarding would be fine, and if they could expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding,” he said.
To those who say waterboarding doesn’t work, it is also immoral, and a war crime, Trump turns a deaf ear.
“I am in the camp where you have to get the information and you have to get it rapidly,” Trump says.
The GOP frontrunner continued his demand to waterboard all the way through the day, and late Tuesday afternoon told CNN again America needs to legalize waterboarding – which he recognized as torture.
“We have to change our law on the waterboarding thing,” Trump told Wolf Blitzer. “They can chop off heads and they can drown people in heavy steel cages and we can’t waterboard. We have to change our laws and we have to be able to fight on an almost equal basis.”
Blitzer asked Trump if he would “start torturing right away?,” noting that Belgian authorities say the suspect in custody “has been talking.”
“Well,” Trump responded, “he may be talking but he’ll talk a lot faster with the torture.”
