Scott Walker Will Not Condemn Comments by His Supreme Court Nominee Who Called Gays ‘Degenerates’

Wisconsin GOP Governor Refuses to Withdraw Support for Supreme Court Justice Up for Election

Scott Walker is standing by Rebecca Bradley. The Wisconsin governor has nominated Bradley to several different judicial appointments, including the state supreme court bench, on which she sits today. Justice Bradley will face voters to retain her seat April 5, but yesterday’s revelation that in college she wrote a newspaper column and letters to the editor one liberal group is calling “hate speech,” may derail her chances.

Governor Walker, however, is standing by his candidate. He “declined Tuesday to condemn the anti-gay college writings of Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley or say whether he would have appointed her to the state’s highest court had he known of them,” the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports today.

“It’s really irrelevant in that it’s now up to the voters to decide come… April,” Walker said Tuesday, adding, “she made it very clear that the comments she made nearly a quarter century ago do not reflect her opinions as a Supreme Court Justice or a member of the Court of Appeals, as a circuit judge here in Milwaukee County or as a practicing attorney.”

The Journal Sentinel reports that when asked, “Walker would not explicitly condemn Bradley’s comments or share his own views on the subject.”

“A lot of folks, if they went back to what they said in college,” Walker responded, “I think a good chunk of society probably has different views than they did in college.”

Bradley, as NCRM reported Monday, has apologized for her comments, which include:

“Heterosexual sex is very healthy in a loving marital relationship. Homosexual sex, however, kills.”

“One will be better off contracting AIDS than developing cancer because those afflicted with the politically correct disease will be getting all of the funding. How sad that the lives of degenerate drug addicts and queers are valued more than the innocent victims of prevalent ailments.”

And these on President Bill Clinton, which include a racially-charged remark the mainstream media has ignored:

“Congratulations, everyone. You have now elected a tree-hugging, baby-killing, pot-smoking, flag-burning, queer-loving, draft-dodging, bull-spouting ’60s radical socialist adulterer to the highest office in our nation. Doesn’t it make you proud to be an American?”

“You have voted for a man who will judge people on the basis of their color through quotas. I wonder if white men will receive undeserved and unearned preferences over blacks and women as they become increasingly disadvantaged.”

Some have noted Bradley is a long-time financial supporter of Walker, and others have questioned the ethics of her fundraising methods.
