Obama Slams Ted Cruz: ‘I Just Left a Country That Engages in Neighborhood Surveillance’ (Video)

President Responds to GOP Presidential Candidate’s Call for Surveillance of Muslim Communities

Barely hours after terrorists exploded bombs in Brussels, Ted Cruz rushed to his website a vile statement that he was unable to support when CNN questioned him on it.

“We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized,” Cruz insisted, effectively calling for a police state.

Cruz was unable to name a single neighborhood nor was he able to describe what actions law enforcement should be able to take to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods,” but his words were clear.

Today, in a press conference from Argentina, fresh from his historic trip to Cuba, President Barack Obama specifically denounced Cruz’s comments.

“As far as the notion of having surveillance of neighborhoods where Muslims are present, I just left a country that engages in that kind of neighborhood surveillance,” Obama told reporters. “Which by the way, the father of Senator Cruz escaped – for America. The land of the free,” the President said with a touch of snark, almost mocking the Texas Tea Party Senator.

“The notion that we would start down that slippery slope makes absolutely no sense. it’s contrary to who we are, and it’s not going to help us defeat ISIL,” the President said.
