Anti-gay Christian evangelical activist Franklin Graham warns the Girl Scouts organization “sure isn’t what it used to be!”
Christian extremist Franklin Graham is now attacking Girl Scout cookies as part of some vast left wing conspiracy to indoctrinate girls into becoming lesbians, or something like that. The son of evangelical icon Billy Graham took to Facebook Tuesday morning to announce he “won’t be buying any Girl Scout cookies this year.”
Graham says the “Girl Scouts organization sure isn’t what it used to be!,” and cites St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson who “told church members and scout leaders that the Girl Scouts is wrong in their support of transgender rights and homosexuality and is not aligned with the teachings of his church.”
He pointed to a claim supposedly by the the St. Louis archdiocese that, Graham says, “a Girl Scout troop in Utah was formed specifically to reach out to transgendered youth and that the Girl Scouts celebrated the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage on its Instagram and Twitter accounts.”
In fact, last year a girl scout troop was formed in Salt Lake City, and it is welcoming to transgender girls and “youth from LGBT families,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported last year.
Graham says the “archdiocese also revealed that Archbishop Carlson is exactly right—the ‘ways of the world’ are incompatible with biblical values.”
In a letter last month, Archbishop Carlson faulted the Girl Scouts for what it calls the “continued promotion of contraception and ‘abortion rights’ on behalf of its girl members, the majority of whom are minors,” and for “their position on and inclusion of transgender and homosexual issues.” He says they are “are proving problematic.”
The Archbishop also chastised the Girl Scouts for allowing their “resources and social media” to “highlight and promote role models in conflict with Catholic values, such as Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan,” and for promoting and partnering with groups in “conflict with Catholic values, such as Amnesty International.”Â
“More church leaders need his boldness in speaking the truths that set those who follow God’s Word apart from the rest of the world. I don’t know about you, but I won’t be buying any Girl Scout cookies this year,” Graham promised.
