Octogenarian Televangelist Says Gays Use and ‘Take Advantage’ of Men Who Don’t Know Better

Pat Robertson is at it again. The soon-to-be 86-year old multi-millionaire media mogul and televangelist took time today on his “700 Club” show to attack the very essence of same-sex relationships as inferior, and gay people as manipulative users inherently incapable and undeserving of “real love.”

Robertson introduced a story about a gay man who contracted AIDS, but through the power of Jesus Christ was able to become heterosexual and find actual love.

“Robert chose the homosexual lifestyle because he craved attention from men,” Robertson told his audience, as Right Wing Watch reported. Of course, “Robert” didn’t “choose” to be gay, but Robertson and facts don’t mix well.

“Every day, he prayed to die,” Robertson says, “until a Christian family befriended him and gave him a reason to live.”

Robertson attributes Robert’s homosexuality to “an abusive stepfather,” and “looking for acceptance,” as opposed to, say, being born gay.

“We have all these myths about homosexuality and he was just being used by people, they just wanted to take advantage and he didn’t know any better,” Robertson continued. “He thought that what they were showing him was love when actually it was one form of lust.”

“When he came free, he wasn’t ‘homosexual,’ he was a person looking for love, he wanted the real thing and he got it, God gave him real love.”

Robertson’s fake fairy tale is a slap in the face of every LGBT person, every person in a loving same-sex relationship. His special brand of hate and willful ignorance, fortunately, is on its way out, but not as fast as some might think.
