Rubio Says Clinton Supports Abortion ‘Even On The Due Date’ – PolitiFact Says ‘False’

But Rubio Does Want Victims To Give Birth To Their Rapist’s Babies

Florida senator and 2016 Republican presidential candidate, Marco Rubio, attacked Democrats for their “extremist” views on abortion during the weekend debate and took the opportunity to take a swipe at Hillary Clinton, saying she supports the procedure “even on the due date of that unborn child.”

Today, PolitiFact rated Rubio’s statement “False.”

Clinton, PolitiFact reports, has “said she supports restrictions on late-term abortions except in cases of rape, incest and when the mother’s life and health are in danger.”

“I think it’s pretty pathetic,” Clinton responded on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “This is something that illustrates how Senator Rubio has just been going as far as he can to try to, I guess, buttress his credentials with certain parts of the Republican constituency. I’ve been on record for years about where I stand on making abortions safe and legal, the exceptions that are appropriate that should be looked into. And the very difficult choices that very few women have to confront that lead to excruciating kinds of decisions.”

Clinton also went on to clarify that the even though conservatives try to paint the picture that she supports unrestricted abortions even when they are not medically necessary, it’s just not true. “Reasonable kinds of restrictions can be imposed as long as the life and health of the mother are taken into account and that’s what the law is today,” she said.

Meanwhile, it’s Rubio’s positions that are extremist.

“I believe a human being, an unborn child, has the right to live irrespective of the circumstances by which they were conceived,” Rubio said as he defended his position that a woman should be forced to give birth to a child conceived through rape.

During a Sunday interview on ABC News, George Stephanopoulos confronted Sen. Rubio on his abortion stance, specifically his belief that abortion is wrong even in cases of rape or incest. Stephanopoulos asked Rubio what his response would be to a pro-life mother whose daughter became pregnant as a result of rape.

“What do you say to that mom when you look her in the eye?” Stephanopoulos asked. “What do you tell her?”

“It’s a terrible situation,” Rubio replied. “I mean, a crisis pregnancy, especially as a result of something as horrifying as that, I’m not telling you it’s easy. I’m not here saying it’s an easy choice. It is a horrifying thing that you’ve just described. It’s heart breaking. It is unimaginable quite frankly. I get it. I really do. And that’s why this issue is so difficult. But I believe a human being, an unborn child has a right to live, irrespective of the circumstances of which they were conceived. And I know that the majority of Americans don’t agree with me on that.”

So to clarify, Rubio thinks victims of rape, even underage victims, should be punished for an additional nine months as they are forced to carry around the unborn child of their rapist. Then, those women should be forced to go through the painful experience of giving birth to that child. And he’s calling Democrats the extremists. Let’s remind him that fellow conservative (and failed presidential candidate) Rick Santorum’s position is that babies conceived through rape are gifts from God. Once again, who’s the extremist?
