Breaking: Nike ‘Preparing’ To Dump Manny Pacquiao After Anti-Gay Comments, Says TMZ

Is the International Sportswear Brand Willing to Drop an International Sports Star?

TMZ is reporting that Nike is “preparing to cut ties with boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao after his latest round of anti-gay comments.”

Pacquiao recently compared same-sex couples to animals, concluding that same-sex couples are “worse than animals.”

Claiming his anti-gays views are just  “common sense,” the multi-millionaire boxer and Congressman in the Philippines told a local TV station:

“Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? If you have male-to-male or female-to-female (relationships), then people are worse than animals.”

Noting that “the move is not official yet,” TMZ, citing “multiple sources” reports “Nike is particularly disturbed after Pacquiao said gay people are “worse than animals” … and intend to drop the boxer for good.”

The move comes not only after Pacquiao’s ugly comments, but after this online social media campaign by LGBT activist and NYC graphic designer Scott Wooledge, along with a Change.org petition by Filipino activist Aries Dela Cruz. In his home country, LGBT activists are asking voters to “boycott“ Pacquiao’s run for the Senate.

Pacquiao did later apologize but insisted that is views on homosexuality would not change, and that he was praying for LGBT people.
