What’s One More Lie To The Award-Winning Liar?
Donald Trump has his first TV ad up, and it’s a doozy. As NCRM reported this morning, the video is both low-budget and classless, but it turns out, it’s also false.
PolitiFact notes that the footage used in the ad that shows people supposedly crossing the border from Mexico to America in reality shows people crossing the border in Morocco into Melilla, an autonomous Spanish city.
The voiceover says that Trump will “stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for.”
The footage, PolitiFact reports, “shows dozens of people streaming across the border, as if they were ants fleeing an anthill.”
Trump has not posted the video anywhere except his own website, but here’s a copy posted to Twitter. The footage in question comes at about the 23 seconds mark:
PolitiFact says “Trump’s television ad purports to show Mexicans swarming over ‘our southern border.’ However, the footage used to support this point actually shows African migrants streaming over a border fence between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Melilla, more than 5,000 miles away. We rate the claim Pants on Fire.”
Meanwhile, NBC reporter Katy Tur asked Trump’s campaign manager about the clear disparity, he responded with “No shit.”
This is far from the first time PolitiFact has given the GOP frontrunner a “Pants on Fire” rating.
Trump’s lies and falsehoods earned him PolitiFact’s “Lie of the Year” award last month.Â
Last year they rated 76 percent of Trump’s statements “Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire, out of 77 statements checked.”
“No other politician has as many statements rated so far down on the dial,” PolitiFact claimed.
