Pres. Obama Momentarily Mocks Donald Trump: I Can Imagine Him As President In An SNL Skit (Video)

President Barack Obama was asked if he could see Donald Trump delivering a State of the Union Address.

In an interview discussing tonight’s State of the Union Address, Today show host Matt Lauer asked President Barack Obama Tuesday morning if he could imagine a President Donald Trump delivering the State of the Union Address. An otherwise serious  Commander-in-Chief with just one year and one week left in the Oval Office paused before momentarily mocking the GOP frontrunner. “Well I can imagine it in a Saturday Night [Live] skit,” the 54-year old Democrat replied.

But Obama also quickly changed gears and warned of complacency.

“Look, anything’s possible,” the President told Lauer. “And I think we shouldn’t be complacent. I think everybody’s got to work hard,” presumably, he meant, if they want a Democrat in the White House again.

Comparing Obama’s 2008 win to the failures of George W. Bush, with the country “hungry” for his message of hope and change, Lauer asked Obama if he feels responsible for Trump’s popularity.

“You know, talk to me if he wins. Then we’ll have a conversation about how responsible I feel about it.”

The President also chose to take a more long-term, historic view of the rise of people like Donald Trump.

“The message that Donald Trump’s putting out has had adherence a lot of times during the course of our history,” Obama said.

“But I’m pretty confident that the overwhelming majority of Americans are looking for the kind of politics that does feed our hopes and not our fears, that does work together and doesn’t try to divide us, that isn’t looking for simplistic solutions and scapegoating.“
