Glenn Beck Just Endorsed Ted Cruz For President

Religious Extremism, Far Right Wing Tea Party Politics

Glenn Beck Saturday afternoon endorsed Ted Cruz for president. The conservative commentator and media mogul who made a name for himself at Fox News as a fear-mongering hate-filled fact-ignoring religious extremist took to the stage at a rally at Faith Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.

“Beck compared Cruz to the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, and gave him a compass that belonged to the first one, George Washington,” The Hill reports. “I’m taking a very big risk here and gambling on it, but this is how much I believe in Ted Cruz,” Beck said at a Cruz rally in Ankeny, Iowa.

“I’d like you to hold onto that,” he said, passing Cruz the compass, “to make sure your compass is square and you stay true” to your values.

Also joining Beck on stage now are faux historian David Barton, GOP extremist conservative Tea Party Rep. Steve King, and anti-gay activist Bob Vander Plaats.

In a statement Beck noted he has never endorsed a candidate before in his nearly 40 years as a broadcaster.

“We need a new George Washington,” Beck said in his statement. “Today’s Washington will not be found in the garish light of gold, but rather, in the bold service of a man who stands tirelessly for what he deeply believes — that government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
