Councilman Comes Out As Gay On Twitter, Professes Love For ‘The Golden Girls’
New York City Councilman James Vacca came out with style by announcing on Twitter that he is #TeamDorothy.
New York City Council Member James Vacca (D-13th) came out as gay in one of the funniest ways possible on Friday. He posted a straightforward tweet on Twitter, while also announcing his love for “The Golden Girls.”
“After talking w/ my friends & family I’ve decided to come out publicly as a gay man. Now back to the Golden Girls! #outandproud #comingoutâ€
“At this point in my life I’ve decided to publicly come out as a gay man. Every person has their own journey and I am fortunate to be able to make the decision to come out on my own terms,†Vacca, 60, who represents The Bronx, said in a statement. “My orientation is an innate part of who I am and I want my friends, family, colleagues, and constituents to share in this part of my life. I don’t want a spectacle or media event; instead I just want your respect as another human being.â€
Numerous people responded by tweeting their support to Vacca, including New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo. “.@JamesVacca13 I’m honored to know you and stand with you,†he said.
The Stonewall Democrats of NYC also sent their support. “@JamesVacca13 congratulations on this monumental personal step forward! We are excited to continue to partner w/you to support LGBT NYers!â€
Fellow NYC Council Member, Robert E Cornegy, Jr. had a little fun and joked around with his response. “Congrats @JamesVacca13. I hope this step brings you much happiness. But who’s your favorite Golden Girl??? #TeamDorothy.â€
Without skipping a beat, Vacca simply replied, “#teamdorothy also!â€
Congrats Council Member Vacca, and welcome to the community!
