Citing ‘Harm To Millions Of Americans’ Obama Vetos GOP Bill To Repeal Obamacare (Full Text)

Read why President Barack Obama just vetoed a bill that would have repealed Obamacare and defunded Planned Parenthood.

As he promised, President Barack Obama just vetoed H.R. 3762, a GOP-led bill to repeal significant portions of the Affordable Care Act and to defund Planned Parenthood. It was the first time such a measure, after 62 votes in Congress, was able to get to the President’s desk.

There was no question the President would veto it, and Republicans knew it, but insisted on moving forward with it anyway. Speaker Paul Ryan, as he signed the bill and sent it to the President, used the opportunity to boast that if there were a Republican in the White House, Obamacare would be gone.

The President, in vetoing the legislation, cited “the harm this bill would cause to the health and financial security of millions of Americans.”

He also noted, “Republicans in the Congress have attempted to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act over 50 times. Rather than refighting old political battles by once again voting to repeal basic protections that provide security for the middle class, Members of Congress should be working together to grow the economy, strengthen middle-class families, and create new jobs.”

Below, the President’s message.
