Restaurant Proudly Insists It’s Being ‘Politically Incorrect’ By Posting ‘Merry Christmas’ Sign

A Texas restaurant chain says it was risky but worthwhile to post a sign warning customers it is “politically incorrect” and says “Merry Christmas!”

Many conservatives who hate what they see as “political correctness” really have no idea what they’re talking about.

Have you ever said “Merry Christmas!” to someone and had them chastise you for it? Has anyone ever wished you Merry Christmas and you were offended?

Probably not.

Most people don’t have a problem with “Merry Christmas,” but in an effort to acknowledge there are people who don’t celebrate or observe the holiday, some businesses and other organizations ask their employees to say “Happy Holidays” out of respect for all people.

That’s really it.

And most people support our flag, our firefighters, and our troops, regardless of their views on war, or any particular military action.

But Berryhill Baja Grill CEO Jeff Anon, who runs a small Houston, Texas chain of restaurants, felt the need to post a rather rude and unwelcomng sign on his stores’ front doors:

“Notice: This store is politically incorrect. We say ‘Merry Christmas,’ ‘God bless America.’ We salute our flag and give thanks to our troops, police officers and firefighters. If this offends you, you are welcome to leave. In God we trust.”

Unsurprisingly, Anon says that the overwhelming majority of customers have been very supportive, and he’s even printed up extra signs for people who want to hang them in their homes and businesses.

Anon, who tells ABC News he is Jewish, “said the last straw for him was the criticism that erupted in social media last month over Starbucks’ red holiday-themed Christmas cups.”

“There’s nothing wrong with saying ‘Merry Christmas’ in lieu of ‘Happy Holidays.’ When people say ‘Merry Christmas,’ they’re being nice,” Anon says. “They’re not trying to be politically incorrect or have religious beliefs.”

“Some people say you shouldn’t take religion into the workplace. We’re not trying to bring religion into the workplace. It has nothing to do with religion. It’s the spirit of the holidays.”

Of course, some far-right wing sites have reported on Anon’s act, with headlines like, “Some Feelings Could Get Hurt by This Very ‘Politically Incorrect’ Notice Posted at Texas Restaurant Chain,” and Fox News celebrating the restaurant’s bravery.

There’s a difference that most conservatives seem to not understand. Saying “Merry Christmas!” isn’t being politically incorrect. Donald Trump saying he is “calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on,” is – and it’s also disgusting.

Not a fine line, but sadly, conservatives choose to not be able to see it.
