Lawmaker Urges Alabamans To Shop Only At Stores Owned By American ‘God Fearing Christians’

One Alabama Republican thinks it’s OK to look at a clerk to tell if they’re American.

Republican State Rep. Alan Harper says it’s his “personal crusade” to get his fellow Alabama residents to shop only at stores owned by Americans, and not only Americans, but American Christians.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Harper asked for people to try to shop “at American owned stores,” and specifically pointed to convenience stores where people buy gas and other items, noting they “are not owned by God fearing Christians.”

Harper did not offer any proof of ownership.

In large part, these stores are owned by folk that send their profits back to their homeland and then in turn use these funds against our country to create turmoil, fear and in some cases death and destruction,” Harper, who is chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee, explained.

“I realize I am ‘painting with a broad brush’ here, but the madness has to stop. Please join me in making the extra effort to never support these stores/shops! I am trying to do my part and I know you will to [sic].”

He closed by wishing his friends, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May God Bless.”

In the comments section, Harper was asked, “How do we know who owns the store? If it’s an Exxon is that ok?”

He responded apparently under the belief that people can tell if someone is an American Christian by looking at them.

Look behind the cash register. Most are owner/operators,” Harper offered. He has yet to respond to another question, “so if they look brown i should not use them???”

Harper also posted, “I have seen store owners across the South post ‘American Owned’ in their store windows. I stopped there.”

Last month, GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz insisted that Syrian refugees should only be allowed into America if they are Christian, with Bush claiming if they are Christian they can prove it.
