GOP Lawmaker Calls On Concealed Carry Permit Holders To ‘Clean Our Society Of Scum Bags’ (Video)

A Republican lawmaker in Wisconsin wants vigilantes walking the streets armed with concealed weapons to protect the citizenry.

After a mall shooting in Madison, Wisconsin last weekend that left a teenager with a bullet hole in their pant leg, a Republican state representative is calling on citizens with concealed carry gun permits to carry their guns at all times.

“Wisconsin does not have a death penalty law, but with significant practice and careful aim, law-abiding citizens can help clean our society of these scumbags,” Rep. Bob Gannon said in a statement Monday, as Raw Story reported. “Criminals no longer have any fear of our courts or our prisons, so it’s time that the citizens of this fine state stand up and fight back.”

Gannon did not state how law-abiding citizens would be able to determine who “these scumbags” are.

A “gang banger in the mall with a gun is going to think twice if there could be a law abiding (concealed carry weapon) holder standing behind them fully prepared to shoot center mass, as this is how you’re trained to eliminate the threat these creeps pose to you, your family, and all law-abiding citizens unwillingly dragged into their public crime spree,” Gannon continued.

Shooting center mass means to aim for the heart and lungs, with the intention of killing, not wounding.

Democratic State Rep. Chris Taylor disagrees, saying Gannon is “for a vigilante uprising.”

“Representative Gannon is living in a James Bond dream world,” Rep. Taylor said in a statement, as Madison.com reports. “If more guns made us safer, we would be the safest country in the world. We should be making guns like the one used at East Towne Mall more difficult to obtain for those who abuse the law.” 

Gannon insists his position is “not vigilantism,” but “self-defense.”

The mall is a gun-free zone, something Gannon strongly opposes. He says he now refuses to shop there.

“I refuse to spend my money at any business that believes my Second Amendment rights have to be left in my car.”

Gannon, elected to the state legislature in 2014, has an 86% rating from the NRA, co-sponsored a bill to allow police to carry firearms in schools, has sponsored bills requiring drug testing of unemployment recipients, and sponsored a bill mandating that recipients of SNAP spend 2/3 of their benefits on certain foods.

He’s also voted to ban abortion after 20 weeks, and to reduce funding for women’s reproductive health clinics.

“I’m a staunch conservative who believes in the sanctity of life,” Gannon says on his campaign website. “Generations of families considering an entitlement program as their way of life are an embarrassment to this country,” he adds.

“I believe the Constitution is the second best piece of literature in history, following only the Bible,” Gannon continues. “I believe the founders understood that the freedoms of the people should not be infringed, and that as small of a government as possible was the way to ensure that freedom. Smaller government means lower taxes, and less meddling in our daily lives.”
