Opinion: Comparing Planned Parenthood to the Nazis, Franklin Graham has decided to quit the GOP – proof of the insanity of today’s Republican Party, and proof it is destroying itself from within.
And so it begins.
Franklin Graham today has quit the Republican Party.
On the one hand, it’s embarrassing, for him, and for the GOP.
And on the other hand, it’s perfect, the culmination of years of lies, deceit, hate, and hysteria fueled by Fox News, Republican politicians, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Tony Perkins, Bryan Fischer, and a collective willful ignorance.
“Shame on the Republicans and the Democrats for passing such a wasteful spending bill last week,” Franklin Graham, son of Evangelical icon and advisor to several presidents, Billy Graham, wrote today on (of course) Facebook.
Graham has made his decision after listening to the very lies Republican politicians told him. Intellectual curiosity not being his strong suit, Graham believed what he was told. The GOP has created its own demise.
“And to top it off, funding Planned Parenthood!,” Graham laments. “After all of the appalling facts revealed this year about Planned Parenthood, our representatives in Washington had a chance to put a stop to this, but they didn’t.”
Actually, Franklin Graham’s now-former party put out zero actual facts about Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood isn’t selling aborted baby parts, it isn’t using government funds to perform abortions and it’s, frankly, Franklin, nothing that you and your now former cronies have been claiming, like you do in your very next sentence:
There’s no question—taxpayers should not be paying for abortions! Abortion is murder in God’s eyes. Seeing and hearing Planned Parenthood talk nonchalantly about selling baby parts from aborted fetuses with utter disregard for human life is reminiscent of Joseph Mengele and the Nazi concentration camps!
Really? Planned Parenthood is like the Nazis? If they can, Planned Parenthood should sue, everyone, who has libeled their good name and spread lies about their practices.
“Nothing was done to trim this 2,000 page, $1.1 trillion budget,” Graham cries. “This is an example of why I have resigned from the Republican Party and declared myself Independent. I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or Tea Party to do what is best for America,” he says. And he’s, in a manner, correct. The majority of voters, not even Republican voters, are just not willing to create the theocracy he demands.
So Franklin Graham will, effectively, follow in the footsteps of his pals like the American Family Association and their David Lane, who heads AFA’s American Renewal Project, to sire an army of Christian pastors to take over America!
“Unless more godly men and women get in this process and change this wicked system, our country is in for trouble. I want to challenge Christians, even pastors, across the country to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, country commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.”
This is yet one more nail in the coffin of the GOP, a political party that let in the crazed religious right decades ago, then sat back and watched those zealots and theocrats rise up in biblical condemnation of American principles and its own conservative values, and allowed them to be replaced with hypocrisy and lies, until they were left still dissatisfied, destroying the party, like a cancer, from within.

Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are each doing a great job furiously adding nails to the coffin. It has been built, and all we need now is to watch the Franklin Grahams, Mike Huckabees and Tony Perkins of the world start to shovel God’s good earth on top of it.
