UPDATING: Los Angeles Schools Closed Due To ‘Credible’ Bomb Threat

School officials have closed all schools after receiving a bomb threat. The FBI has been called in.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has been closed Tuesday morning after receiving a bomb threat. In a press conference, Schools Superintendent Ramon Cortines called it “broad,” and a “credible terror threat,” and emphatically stated all schools in the six districts will have to be searched by law enforcement.

All schools, public and charter, are now closed.

Students, teachers, administrators, and all personnel have been requested to stay home. Businesses were asked to be flexible with parents who are employees who had children affected.

“We and until it is deemed safe by law enforcement and concurred by our district officials, which we believe will be able to occur by the end of this day,” the Superintendent said.

Mashable notes the “district has 640,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade and more than 900 schools and 187 public charter schools,” and “spans 720 square miles including Los Angeles and all or part of more than 30 smaller cities and some unincorporated areas.”

Pete Williams of NBC News said the threat came via an email to a school board member. It listed several schools and was specific, Williams said.
